Lens Types
At Spec-Savers we pride ourselves on recommending the best lenses available so you get the best choice to suit your needs.
What are Single Vision Lenses
Single vision lenses are single power lenses which have the same focal power throughout (top to bottom) and can be used to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism. Most people who wear spectacles before the age of 40 have single vision lenses.
What are Bifocal Lenses
Bifocal lenses have two parts or two focal points: the upper part normally used for distance vision and the lower part used for near-vision tasks such as reading. After the age of 45 most people experience more difficulty with near tasks, thus needing different prescription lenses for their reading which defers from what they would normally use for distance viewing. Bifocal lenses allow them to see close and far without needing to change spectacles.
What are Multifocal Lenses
Our INCREDIBLE Multifocal Lens features the latest technology in digital surfacing, it has several focusing areas that corrects multiple focal distances. It allows a smooth transition as your eyes move naturally from one object to another.
The INCREDIBLE Multifocal Lens provides more advanced optics customized for every users’ prescription and frame choice making adaptation easier and making it the multifocal lens design of choice.
The main benefit of digital surfacing technology, is that it considers the lens surface as a series of individual points, and then cuts each of these points "pixel by pixel" along multiple axes.
Benefits
• Improved sharpness of vision
• High tolerance offers complete visual freedom to the wearer
• Improved balance between far and near vision
• Improved natural sight at all distances and in all directions
• For customers who care about both quality and price
Polarized Lenses
Spectacles with polarized lenses are ideal for those taking part in water sports such as windsurfing, sailing and fishing as they take the glare off the water allowing you to see below the water line. Polarized lenses also protect and rest your eyes from the extra ultraviolet radiation that is reflected off the water surface, making your eyes feel less tired at the end of the day.
Polymer Lenses
Polymer lenses are plastic lenses that are increasingly recommended above traditional glass lenses. They have numerous benefits, including:
• Half the weight of glass lenses
• Superior UV protection
• Easy to tint
• More shatter-resistant
• Scratch resistant coating
Sports
Spec-Savers has a range of active wear lenses to choose from, it advisable to use spectacles made from a material like Trivex that offer high endurance and resistance to high impact breakages.
Cost of Lenses
The cost will depend on the type of lenses that you are prescribed, this may vary from Polycarbonate and Trivex for rimless and semi-rimless frames or alternatively CR39 lenses for full frame lenses.
